Explosive Growth Syndrome Before making your final decision for accommodations in The Great Smoky Mountains or planning your luxury vacation, consider this valuable information.
Most folks have heard of Dollywood. Just say the word and images of a happy little blond gal with a big heart come to mind. Ahhh - Dolly. Indeed, she's done many wonderful things for the area, including help make it the most visited National Park in the nation. It's less than a days drive to over half of the United States and needless to say, the area is absolutely beautiful every season of the year and it's very family friendly. This is "well and good" but there's something you should know a little about and how you will be effected by it - like it or not!
When spending your hard earned money, the last thing you want for the family vacation is to fall victim to negligence and something we call Explosive Growth Syndrome (EGS). EGS is a term used to describe what we have experienced here in the Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Sevierville and Smokey Mountain area.
Here's what it's all about...
In as little as ten years (ago), you could see nothing but a scattered business here and there on each side of the street as you made your way from Sevierville to Pigeon Forge. Well, those days are long gone! Now there are thriving Restaurants, Outlets, Theatres, and a host of other businesses located as far as the eye can see. It has been estimated that there are over fourteen million visitors to the Smokey Mountain National Park every year and needless to say, it keeps things hopping for the area businesses, hotels and cabins in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
Along with this, there has been a huge demand for accommodations and therein is where the "EGS" start cracking...
You see, with such a demand, many developers (and "wanna-be" developers) have set up shop to try cashing in on the cabin sales and rental industry. They see it as somewhat of a "goldrush" concept... the first to get there, dig in, build a cabin in the smokies will be the first one to rent it or sell it and cash in on the profits! This breeds danger! This has created a massive number of cabins that are either poorly or unsafely built, found in terrible locations, or worst still... all of the above!
Also a part of Explosive Growth Syndrome is the fact the many cabin rental companies are poorly representing cabin owners and guests. Remember the goldrush concept? Many of these homes are dressed up nice and rented in unclean, unsanitized conditions that most folks would consider "way under the mark" for their children or loved ones to be playing or sleeping in.
[FACT] Many rental agencies allow comforters to be used several nights by various guests before they are ever cleaned!!! In other words, you may get clean sheets and pillow-cases but the top covering was used by the couple that just left before you arrived.
The bed is a very obvious and clearly seen spot in a bedroom. If it's being neglected right out in the open, can you imagine what may be present in less conspicuous places say, like around the bathroom or kitchen? Whether a "substandard" cabin is rented or sold, it's a vicious cycle if you're not dealing with a company that truly understands what "clean, safe and good location" really means!
To say there are many cabins in our area is a gross understatement! To say all luxury cabins in The Smoky Mountains are "about out the same" in quality is fraud!
Do Your Homework.
If it sounds cheap, it's probably going to be a big "let-down" when you pull up to the cabin. Turn-over rates are high on many cabins (remember, you are visiting the most visited area in the Nation). This considered, be forewarned, cleanliness is not always a priority by most property management companies. This is a sad but true reality!
Don't be yet another statistic and victim of carelessness. Insist on trusting your Gatlinburg luxury cabin rental needs to that of a highly reputable company.
